He has served as a White House presidential speechwriter, a Heritage Foundation policy analyst, and a senior aide to both a Republican U.S. senator and governor.
During the Cold War, Michael was one of the nation’s leading proponents for the Reagan Doctrine and visited regularly with U.S.-backed anti-communist resistance forces in Angola, Cambodia, Nicaragua and elsewhere that played a vital role in America’s ultimate Cold War victory.
Following the Cold War’s end, Michael managed global program development at the U.S. government-supported International Republican Institute, where he developed and managed programs to cultivate democratic institutions in nations seeking constitution-based representative democracies and the protection of human and civil rights.

in February 2009, Michael was one of several co-founders of the U.S. Tea Party movement, which has blossomed into the largest independent grassroots political movement in American history. In June 2015, Michael was one of only a handful of national political leaders to endorse Donald Trump for president. He has been a consistent public advocate for the Make America Great Again (MAGA) policy agenda.
